Day Seven

Ezri is still sweet as can be. She really likes cuddling in my shirt. I am taking stock of shirts so I can wear a good set for her to cuddle in. Ezri crams herself in with her head at my shoulder and sometimes peers out.
Ezri is an active, curious, fairly demanding little bird. I wish the nice playstand that she had would have fit in her previous owners car. She definately needs and misses a nice large place to play and lots of toys.
We discovered she knows what french fries are and likes them. She hopped from my chair to my hubby just to check out the plate. These were unsalted so she got a tiny piece. YUM!!!
More to come....

Vet Visit Today- Day Four

Ezri and I cuddled for a few minutes this morning. Still no biting just lots of love.
I am taking her to the vet for an exam, wing and nail trim. I am driving to Lake Oswego to see
Marli Litner. Check out her site here. Traffic is notoriously bad so I will be leaving early. Don't want to miss this appointment.
After the appointment she will move to our bedroom. Ezri will get more attention and exposure to John. More details later today.

Ezri had a good exam. She passed a thorough physical and had a fecal test. All is ok. She was a little noisy on the way there. It was bright out and people always tried to look at her as they were driving by. On the way back it was getting dark and she was quiet. Ezri tends to squawk a hellow to you when you first see her and when you leave. Other than that she is really quiet.

Here are the pictures of the promised time with me.

She also spent some time on John's shoulder and on his hand. It is a good start. Ezri
is not that comfortable with him but I can see her changing easily.

Third Day

Ezri was curious about her cage cleaning. She let me do everything and was not threatened.
I was feeling brave and offered her my arm again. She jumped right on and sat as close to me as she could get. I then offered her my bare hand. She stepped right up. No biting. She then proceded to go up my arm and down my shirt. I held her and cuddled her for about a half hour.
I really should have waited until she is fully clipped. I don't want to risk an injury.
After the vet visit she will be moving to a closer room and be able to have even more interaction from my husband and I. She seems to be have more experiences with women. John and I are going to work on her comfort level with men. He will be the designated treat giver. The way to her heart is her tummy!!

Ezri's Second Day

I went in to un- cover her this morning and she is doing well. I was able to reach in a take out her water dish with out incident. I cleaned it and filled it with warm water. When I was putting it back in her cage I offered her a drink from it. She took two. The she tried to come out so I offered her my arm. I left my arm in the cage so she jumped on then jumped off after a few seconds. She is now eating. She did not try to bite me.
I just spent an hour with her. I was drinking my coffe and she was eating her breakfast of seed.
I did offer her some birdie bread. She took it gently from my fingers and nibbled some and dropped it. I gave her a bigger piece and she literally kicked it off the perch with her little leg.
John was able to feed her some millet through the cage bars. They had a nice interaction. Her comfort level is still just at handing food to her.
After her vet visit Tuesday we shall see if she wants to come out and say Hi!

My First Foster Bird - Ezri

Today I got my first foster bird. She is a 2.5 year old sun conure named Ezri.
She is in beautiful feather and is bright eyed and bushy tailed. Very precious!
So far she has let me rub her feet and her beak. Of course if I let her she would definately give me a nip. I gave her a tongue depressor wrapped in paper and she loved it. I also put a small toy with wood pieces in her cage. We shall see if she likes it.

Here are some of the things I know about her:
  • Her right leg was broken around 6 months of age.
  • She likes cashews, cheese, peanut butter on toast, cranberry juice with no sugar(28 oz water to 4oz juice).
  • She likes to cuddle in your shirt if she gets a little chilly.
  • She has only had one previous owner.
  • She is a wood chewer.
  • She does not talk but imitates dogs.
  • She understands up, down, come, and go poopy. Of course as all birds do, she does this on her terms.
  • She likes to have a perch outside her cage to play on.
  • She is used to being out of her cage at least 4 hours per day.
  • She likes toys but new ones take her a little while to get used to.
  • She is territorial. Not just her cage but the whole house.
  • She is used to being covered at night and has a blanket for that purpose.
  • If she is biting say,"No Hard" and she will usually ease up.
  • She instigates bathing about 1x per week. When this happens put a dish with water inside her house.
Ezri was named after this Deep Space 9 character.
